PCI DSS Security Standard

We recommend that all merchants should comply with the PCI Data Security Standards. Compliance with data security standards can bring major benefits to businesses of all sizes, while failure to comply can have serious and long-term, negative consequences.

Compliance is an ongoing process, not a one time event. It helps prevent security breaches and theft of payment card data, not just today, but in the future. You've worked hard to build your business - make sure you secure your success by securing your customers' payment card data.

Your customers depend on you to keep their information safe - repay their trust with compliance to the PCI Data Security Standard.

If there is a security breach from within your organisation and you are unable to demonstrate compliance with PCI DSS, you may be liable for any losses that arise. This could mean a substantial fine imposed by The Card Schemes, or a ban on accepting cards altogether. Don't let that happen to your business.

Note that enforcement of merchant compliance is managed by the individual payment brands and not by the Council - the same is true for non-compliance penalties.

About the PCI Security Standards Council

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) is a global security initiative aimed at protecting cardholder details such as credit card numbers and personal data. Another level of security is 3D Secure which (similar to Chip and PIN) allows your customers to enter their personal number (PIN) at your website checkout.

The Council's five founding global payment brands, American Express, Discover Financial Services, JCB International, MasterCard Worldwide and Visa Inc. have agreed to incorporate the PCI DSS as the technical requirements of each of their data security compliance programmes. Each founding member also recognises the QSAs, PA-QSAs and ASVs certified by the PCI Security Standards Council.

All five payment brands share equally in the Council's governance; have equal input into the PCI Security Standards Council and share responsibility for carrying out the work of the organisation. Other industry stakeholders are encouraged to join the Council as participating organisations and review proposed additions or modifications to the standards.

Chip & PIN Solutions is fully PCI DSS compliant and has a wealth of experience in card processing.
